Isambard Kingdom Brunel

In a National poll, Brunel was voted second to Sir Winston Churchill as Britain's Greatest Briton. He built The Great Western Railway, bridges including Clifton Suspension Bridge, viaducts, tunnels and three ships, SS Great Western, SS Great Britain and SS Great Eastern. Yet very few know anything about the man who was a friend of composer Mendelssohn and an inspiration to painter JWR Turner. Oh and he was only five-feet tall and smoked 40 cigars a day.

Vivienne  Fayre  - The Dancing Poppy

Vivienne Fayre, a 19 year-old dancer from Devon, was the only entertainer killed during World War Two when the scenery truck in which she travelled hit a landmine.
